Young people, especially those living in rural areas, are capable of making huge differences in their communities but they often need support in becoming actively involved in their communities and with promoting community development. April 25-30, 2014, Syunik NGO hosted 24 young people from Georgia, Spain, Ukraine, Germany, Switzerland and Armenia to share their experience and skills and to get to know each other’s values and lifestyles. The Let’s Shape Our Future Ourselves training course was aimed at encouraging cross-cultural awareness as well as developing leadership skills among youth from rural areas in different countries. The project was implemented through the Youth in Action (YiA) Program sponsored by the European Commission and facilitated by two experienced and skilled YiA trainers from Armenia and Spain. A cultural event was part of the training course where participants had an opportunity to present their country’s unique cultural features as a conversation starter for all guests.
